We truely love all of our Miniature Doxie's so we try our best to provide the best housing and care for their physical and mental health both in their younger breeding years and in their older retirement years.     There are a lot of breeders out there that keep their breeding age dogs in a 4' x 6' cage that is no different than a death row cell in a prison with no facilities for toileting so these poor dogs live their entire lives trampling in their own waste until they are needed to breed, then they go right back to this life of solitare and disgust. After these dogs are too old to breed anymore, the kennel owner will drop them off with the local SPCA or just take them for a ride in the country and put them out to fend for themselves.     We at Blackledge Miniature Doxie's believe that all of our dogs are part of our family and deserve the best that we can offer to them during their lives. We have a total of 4.5 acres of country land with a large 1/4 th acre yard that is fenced in for our dogs own protection that they are allowed to run in freely, all day, every day. We have pleanty of room to expand our facilities if needed. They are housed in a state of the art kennel at night for their own protection from preditors in the area like Bob Cats, Cyotes and Wolves, all of which hunt at night. We also have a watchdog named Sammy that will fight to the death with any of these preditors that come near our property. Unfortunately, a large Bob Cat has successfully taken several of our house pets but it only hunts at night, this is why we house all of our Miniature Doxie's in a kennel at night. These unfortunate instances were on nights that we had Sammy inside of our house where she could not watch for these vicious preditors. Sammy was outside on one night when the Bob Cat tried to take a house cat that we rescued from Hurricane Katrina and a fight ensued. That Bob Cat managed to leave Sammy with a large gaping hole in her the side of her face but was beaten enough to leave and has not been back since.     Our Miniature Doxie's Night Kennel is fitted with cliamte controled air, large feeders and automatic waterers, a bed for sleeping with cushioned pads and sheets for covering if they should need it. Each kennel is cleaned out daily maintaining sanitation. Also, each kennel has a puppy door that allows the dogs to go outside into a 1/4th acre yard where the dogs get pleanty of exercise and play.

We do not under any circumstances dispose of a dog because it is no longer able to make us a profit. We would rather loose money on an animal than abandon it. We provide the same living facilities for our retired dogs that we provide our breeding age dogs. All Miniature Doxie's that have reached retirement age, (Which means, the dog is getting too old to safely reproduce), are offered as pets to anyone whom can provide a good home for these wonderful dogs. If no one adopts them, we will care for them for the remainder of their natural lives.     Many breeders will say, this is just crazy. You can't run a business like that, by loosing money on non-productive dogs. My responce is this, "For all good deeds you will recieve the same in return 10 fold". Besides, when these dogs were younger and producing a profit, each one of them produced enough money to care for the retirement of over 30 dogs. As I said in the beginning, all of our dogs are a part of the family and will be missed very much when they retire and go to a new home.
