Tissue Culture in simple terms is the growing of a new plant from tissues taken from a donor plant.
Almost any tissue can be used to culture new plants, i.e. leaf, root / rhizome, branch etc. In most cases
the leaf is used to perform this procedure.
Tissue culture propigation is not a new procedure
but for economic and technical reasons, most nurseries do not utilize tissue culture's to propigate their
bamboo. I have done extensive research on the subject of Propigation of Bamboo from tissue cultures and
have found the cost in labor and supplies is too prohibitive for most nurseries to include in their business.
Fact is that there is only one other bamboo nursery that I could locate that is utilizing this process.
My medical training has allowed me to move into this feild with easy, since the sterile procedures are
identical to those we use in every medical setting.
Here at Blackledge Exotic bamboo Nursery
we are utilizing Tissue Culture propigation on bamboo that are slow to propigate on their own and bamboo
that are rare and difficult to find. Tissue Culture is just one of many tools that we are using here
to ensure the success of our bamboo as a species.

Tissue Propigation of Bamboo is a very difficult task. Because of the nature of the bamboo
cell structure, successful tissue propigation is rare. We are not discouraged by the fact that this process
is extreemly difficult, rather we are challenged to try harder and continue to reach for success.
